Selkirk Friendship Centre Daycare Program

 

The Selkirk Friendship Centre Daycare is a 32 space preschool childcare program. We care for children aged 2-9 years. We provide a rich learning environment, which includes a hot meal program. The Selkirk Friendship Centre Daycare staff commit to providing quality care for families. We are located at 207 Morris Avenue in Selkirk, behind the Selkirk Friendship Centre in the Tyro Housing unit. Our hours of operation are Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 5:30 pm.

The program runs throughout the entire year. The daycare charges a daily fee for childcare but provincial subsidy is available for families that qualify. For information, contact Lorie Fiddler at 204-482-8656 or email sfcdcare@mts.net.

Selkirk Aboriginal Headstart Program

 

The Head Start Program is offered to Aboriginal children (First Nations, Metis, and Inuit) who are 3 and 4 years of age.  Our program runs from September to June inclusive.  Our hours of operation are as follows:

                       Monday - Thursday

              9:00am - 11:00am (3 year olds)

              12:30pm - 3:00pm (4 year olds)

 

The Selkirk Aboriginal Head Start Program provides bus transportation, nutritious snacks, crafts, exciting field trips, and the opportunity to make life-long friendships to our children.

Parent Council, social events, and parent workshops are made available to our families. To empower them to bring forth their unique abilities and further develop as role models for their children and community.  For more information contact Bev Capra Program Director at 482-6419.

 

 

Partners for Careers

 

Partners for Career Program offers services to assist First Nations, Metis, Inuit and Non-Aboriginal job seekers to find empolyment, training and/or educational "next steps".

Young Minds Program

 

The Young Minds Program was established in 1999.  Our aim is to give our youth a safe environment to interact with their peers.  A place they can be themselves while learning the Aboriginal culture.

 

Our hours of operation are:

                                    Monday - Friday  3:30 - 10:00pm

                                                Saturday  2:00 - 10:00pm

                                                Sunday  12:00 - 8:00pm

This project has been created to meet the social, physical, emotional, spiritual and mental needs of all Selkirk youth.  Our focus is Aboriginal Youth and helping them gain a sense of who they are and what their culture is about.  For more information about young minds contact Todd Dmitruk at 482-4032.

SFC Family Support Counselling

 

The Selkirk Friendship Centre has an on-site Family Life/Addictions Counsellor available to provide a wide range of services/programs to members of the community.  These services include opportunities for private counselling, counselling/support groups, and community information workshops and presentations.

 

These services are all free of charge and are available to male and female, youths and adults of all cultural backgrounds.  Individuals interested in accessing any of these services or looking for information about upcoming groups/events can call 482-7525 and ask for our counsellor Darlene Chezick.

After School Club

 

The Selkirk Friendship Centre After School Club is a program for children ages 6-12 years old.  They do different activities every day that vary from month to month.  A monthly calender (subject to change) will be available for parents/guardians to pick up at the Selkirk Friendship Centre or at the program (downstairs at 222 Manitoba Ave.) at the end of each month.  Our program hours are Monday to Friday from 3:30pm-8:00pm.
